Hygieia the goddess of health, cleanliness and sanitation, she was the daughter of the medicine god Asclepius and Epione. In Greek and Roman mythology, Hygieia performed an important role in relation to her father, unlike her father whose duty was linked directly towards the curing of illness, Hygieia was associated with prevention of sickness and the continuation of good health. The name of Hygieia is also the source for the word “Hygiene”.
